Youth Group

Sunday Mornings

On Sunday mornings students in 6th-12th grade gather in the youth room between worship services to discuss and pray together. Our discussions are active and cover a variety of topics ranging from the parables of Christ to C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, but they always point us towards what it means to be disciples of Jesus. Prayer with and for one another is also an important part of our morning.

Youth Group

On Wednesday nights the youth meet to play games, eat snacks, worship, and discuss. In our weeknight meetings we alternate between discussing pressing cultural topics from a Scriptural perspective (e.g., the relationship between science and faith) with doing in-depth readings of different books of the Bible.

Youth Nights

One Sunday evening a month the youth join together for time of fellowship and prayer. Youth nights can take on a many different forms, such as sharing a meal together in someone’s home or having an adventure at Castles n’ Coasters. These nights are focused on giving us the opportunity to spend time with one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Retreats and Mission Trips

Each year the youth do a fall retreat as part of the all-parish retreat, and a winter and spring weekend retreat on our own. Weekend retreats are times for the group to spend an extended period of time in worship and meditation. We always have ample time dedicated to snow ball fights or playing in creeks as well as lessons, prayer, and silent time for reflection. We also observe the Daily Office from the Book of Common Prayer and enjoy morning, noon, and evening prayer times.

In addition to the retreats, every summer the youth group partners with an organization called Youthworks to engage in week-long mission trips. Although we have concentrated our time in Fort Defiance, Arizona, we have also taken trips to Colorado and Wyoming. Trip activities include  working in nursing homes, helping members of the community with home improvement projects, and running a summer-long Vacation Bible School, as well as daily devotions, worship time, and church group prayer time.
