Ordination

The act of ordination is the liturgical expression of the church's appointment of its ministers. In the ecumenical document Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry the meaning of ordination is expressed in a way which is consistent with an Anglican understanding of ordination:

Ordination denotes an action by God and the community by which the ordaned are strengthened by the Spirit for their task and are upheld by the acknowledgement and prayers of the congregation.
