Praying for Those Who Govern Us

Archbishop Foley Beach recently issued this invitation to churches in the ACNA:

I would like to invite you to gather with members of our congregations on the steps of your county court house or city hall, and there pray together for your community, your neighborhoods, your country, and your leaders; asking God to pour out His Spirit to lead them to know and honor Jesus Christ. At a time of your own choosing between now and June 30, and I am asking that you take seriously the admonitions of our Lord and the Apostles in Scripture to pray together that “Thy Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.” Don’t make a big splash about it; just go and claim your neighborhoods and communities for the purposes of God in the Name of Jesus.

In response to Archbishop Foley’s invitation, a small and faithful group of pray-ers met at Wesley Bolin Plaza on the morning of Saturday, April 23, to pray for our local and national government leaders.

We began and ended with A Prayer For Sound Government, then proceeded around the Plaza, praying for the Department of Child Safety, the Supreme Court, the Departments of Education, Corrections, Economic Security, Health, Agriculture, as well as the State Legislature, Law Enforcement and other agencies, houses of worship in Arizona, and the military. We took turns reading the prayers in the Litany, allowing time for personal prayer offerings after each group of prayers. It took just over an hour and, by all accounts, was a rich and meaningful time.

If you would like to use the Litany during private times of prayer, I’d encourage you to do so by downloading it here.
