Job Posting:  Assistant Organist

Part-time (according to a predetermined schedule for the year and on an as-needed basis)

Reports directly to the Rector and works with the Choir Director

Compensation commensurate with AGO guidelines and payable on a monthly basis as services are provided

— Play organ and piano for Sunday services, special services and related choir rehearsals during absences of the church’s primary organist according to a predetermined schedule for the year and on an as-needed basis.  Services will include:  Thanksgiving Day morning, Christmas Day morning, Sunday after Christmas, First Sunday in Lent, Good Friday (two services), Easter Vigil, Sunday after Easter, Memorial Day weekend, 6 weeks of services from mid-June through August.
—  Prepare and perform appropriate Preludes, Offertories and Recessionals on the organ for Sunday and special services.
—  Accompany all special service music to include congregational hymns, choral anthems, Anglican chants, the Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus Dei
—  Accompany vocal and instrumental soloists and ensembles
—  Play the organ and piano on a “first right of refusal” basis for weddings and funerals held at the church throughout the year.

About us:  Christ Church Anglican is part of the Anglican Church in North America.  We have two services each Sunday from September through May (8:45 and 11:15 a.m.).  The Assistant organist plays at the 8:45 a.m. service as well as at the single 10:15 a.m. service from mid-June through July.   Choir rehearsals are held on Wednesday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  We perform traditional sacred choral and instrumental music from the 16th century to the present day, with an emphasis on music written for liturgical worship in Anglican church services (including Psalms sung to Anglican chant, anthems, hymns, service settings, and preces and responses sung antiphonally).  The church currently has a two manual Allen organ and a Baldwin semi-concert grand piano.  To learn more about us, please further explore our website: www.christchurchphoenix.org.

Minimum qualifications:
— Mature Christian faith in accord with the vision, mission and values of Christ Church
— Bachelor’s degree in Music (or commensurate experience) with an emphasis in organ and/or keyboard performance
— Two-three years experience playing organ and piano in a liturgical setting and accompanying choral ensembles
— Familiarity with traditional and contemporary church music in a liturgical setting
— Ability to sight-read
— Ability to take direction and work as a team member
