Most of the feasts in the liturgical year mark key events in the life of Christ. Christ the King Sunday is different. On this day, we celebrate the truth that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Although this holy day was formally established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, Christians have honored the kingship of Jesus since the earliest days of the Church. Christ the King Sunday also marks the final Sunday of the liturgical year, making it a fitting conclusion to our journey through the seasons of faith.
