Palm Sunday is a day of palm fronds, outdoor processions, and loud praises to Christ. With these practices, we mimic the crowds that went with Jesus on his way into Jerusalem. Like them, we celebrate Christ as the returning King, the son of David, and the long-awaited messiah.
Maundy Thursday services traditionally include a focus on the Last Supper, as the beginning of the Triduum or the Great Three Days. A foot washing service is included, and the service often ends with the Stripping of the Altar, an essential Maundy Thursday tradition. After the Maundy Thursday service, parishioners take shifts throughout the night to pray at the church. The “Watch with Me” Prayer Vigil in the Christ Church Anglican Sanctuary will start at 9pm on Maundy Thursday, April 2, and continue until 11am on Good Friday, April 3. There will be a guard on duty from 9pm until 10am. You may sign up here: Christ Church Anglican: Prayer Vigil
On Good Friday, we remember the death of Jesus on the cross. Even though this is indeed a solemn day on which we remember the unjust crucifixion of our Lord, the day is also properly called “Good Friday,” for: He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds [we] have been healed (1 Peter 2:24). This year we have a traditional service at noon and at 7pm we will present a beautiful and reflective service of readings, anthems, and congregational hymns that tells the story of Christ’s sacrifice and death.
Saturday Easter Vigil: There may be no more powerful portrayal of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Christian liturgy than that which happens in the darkness of night before Easter morning. In the Easter Vigil, a service that begins in total darkness, light is carried into the midst of the people and spreads, culminating in the jubilant proclamation of Christ’s resurrection. In this most dramatic of liturgies, we rehearse the story of our redemption.
Easter Sunday: He is Risen! Join us for a combined Easter service with a brunch following in the Parish Hall. SIGN-UP HERE to bring food or assist with the clean-up crew.
