Summer Highlights

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, we welcome the official beginning of summer (although, of course, in Phoenix, we’ve been experiencing “summer” since February!). Summer is often thought of as a “slow” season, and, in many ways, it is important to slow down from time to time. However, this should be an exciting summer here at Christ Church.

On Sunday, we’ll go down to a single worship service on Sunday. We’ll gather at 9 a.m. for worship, followed by coffee time, after which we’ll have adult education as well as children and youth Sunday School. I’m particularly looking forward to our adult education series this summer, which will encourage each of us to engage more deeply with scripture.

Matt Rucker will be joining the staff on June 1 as a Curate, and his ministry will be an immediate gift to our congregation. We are hosting Vacation Bible School the week of June 4, and the youth are going on a mission trip the week of June 11. In July, high school and college students will be participating in a Financial Peace University series aimed at helping our youth establish healthy financial practices. There will be a number of opportunities for our youth to serve and to connect with God and each other. We will have a great variety of preachers this summer, as well.

Finally, seminarian Bree Snow will be leading Evening Prayer each Wednesday this summer at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, beginning on May 30. The Evening Prayer service takes approximately 30 minutes, and is beautiful way to connect with scripture and pray together. The services of Morning and Evening Prayer are at the core of historic Anglican spirituality. If you’ve never done Evening Prayer, or if you have and would like to join this group, please consider participating.

I’m hoping and praying that this summer might be a time of deep, rich time with the Lord and with one another.

Peace,

Chris
