Help Desperately Needed for Phoenix’s Children in Crisis
As we were reminded on Sunday morning, as God’s people we are called “to care for orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). Here in Phoenix, there is an urgent need to care for the vulnerable children in our midst.
A few months ago, an office in central Phoenix was converted into a makeshift shelter for children in foster care who have no homes available to them. The average age of the kids is 6 years, though newborns arrive daily.
There are not enough adults to care for these children at the shelter, so please consider volunteering for a few hours: pray over the children, rock a baby to sleep, change diapers, encourage the overworked staff, and be salt and light in this difficult, often chaotic environment. Volunteers must be screened and fingerprinted. The shelter also could use donations of hygiene kits, toys, backpacks, diapers/wipes, etc.
