Worship: A Groan for God’s Mercy
The Psalm for our coming worship on Sunday is Psalm 84, a moving song of praise and longing for being in God’s presence. It has served as inspiration for multiple musicians, poets, and preachers including Johannes Brahms, Johann Sebastian Bach, other composers of sacred music, and the English Poet-Priest George Herbert. In his poem Sion, Herbert reflects on the glory of Solomon’s temple, the glorious truth that God now makes our hearts his dwelling places, and that the fundamental act of worship in that temple is a groan for God’s mercy and presence.
