Refugee Ministry Training

September 17, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Educate yourself on the refugee journey, and get equipped to love your foreign-born neighbors! If you attended this training last January, consider joining the 201 track this time.

Choose from two tracks:

REFUGEE 101 (for those new to refugee ministry):

  • The refugee journey and overview of the US refugee-resettlement program
  • Loss simulation
  • Cross-cultural basics and communication tips
  • Overviews of countries from where people are fleeing
  • Promoting self-sufficiency
  • Building bridges to people of other faiths

REFUGEE 201 (for current practitioners):

  • Small-group discussion and networking on pertinent topics (church engagement, volunteer retention, avoiding burnout, stories of God at work, political climate, etc.)
  • Presentations from experts in various relevant spheres (hoping for experts on landlord-tenant issues, employment, adult education, citizenship, law enforcement, health)

We’re also hoping to get lunch donated by Chick-fil-A! So we know how many to expect, please indicate your attendance on Facebook or by emailing Mary at marykaech@phxrc.org.
